Welcome to The Finnygook Inn Part of the Brunning Family
The Finnygook is a 15th century coaching Inn located close to the South West Coast Path in Cornwall with stunning views across the Lynher and Tamar rivers. It was completely renovated in October 2009, and with no pool tables or fruit machines, you can enjoy a real log fire and eat out in comfort or perhaps just enjoy a pint of real ale and read the local newspapers. Its also the perfect spot for enjoying a pub lunch after an invigorating walk along the beach, bringing the family for a Sunday roast, or treating yourselves to dinner or a light bite. Accommodation includes five bedrooms, most en-suite with full English breakfast included. It’s the ideal place to stay for walkers or for those wanting a short break.
We know what you’re thinking “What on earth is a Finnygook!?”

Silas Finny
Once upon a time in the 18th Century a notorious smuggler named Silas Finny lived locally.
He had a severe disagreement with his fellow law-breakers over the precise details of the proposed landing of a cargo of brandy, lace and baccy at Whitsand Bay. As a result of this disagreement he revealed to the Excise men the details of the landing and made himself absent when the event took place.
Accordingly some of the smugglers were arrested and deported to Botany Bay in Australia where the Governor General was Captain Bligh of Bounty fame. They did not have an enjoyable time.
Some long time afterwards Finny was done to death at Bligers Well halfway up the hill between Crafthole and Portwrinkle, no doubt as a salutary lesson to fellow "dobbers" and renegades.
His "Gook" reputedly haunts the area and some local families who have lived here for many years will not walk the hill between Crafthole and Portwrinkle in the dark hours.
Finny has not been seen in the Inn that now bears his name for a long time. However, every now and then strange things happen that seem to have Finny's fingerprints all over them.
